An Interior Courtyard Permeates Natural Light

This full scale renovation sought to discover opportunities for natural light via a light well that creates an inviting variety of spaces for daily functions.

Vision

This project demanded a cohesive design feature to seamlessly blend two vertically stacked properties. The full building renovation was re-imagined as a unified single-family dwelling. The project brief encompassed introducing natural light into all four levels, where it was previously absent due to constraints imposed by the grade on one side and neighboring structures on the other. Initially, the sole exposure to natural light resided on the downward-facing facade. The strategic implementation of an interior courtyard bisecting the structure not only fostered a harmonious flow but also ushered in abundant amounts of light and fresh air to every floor.
