Sailing Around Lake Merritt

The Lake Merritt multifamily development in Oakland, California, re-imagined an existing residential lot, replacing three single-family homes with a sleek, multi-story mid-rise apartment building boasting 20 units. Leveraging state bonus density laws, our aim was to maximize housing while maintaining a harmonious density. Elevated slightly above ground level, the building mirrors the soaring sails of Lake Merritt, its all-white facade and metallic fins offering both privacy and a contemporary visual barrier in the diverse neighborhood backdrop.

Vision

Architecturally, our focus was on a modern design that nods to current technical advancements and aesthetics, providing a stark yet complementary contrast to the eclectic architectural tapestry of the surrounding area.

Features at a Glance

  • Moveable sun fins that wrap the facade
  • Undulating floor plan allows for private terraces
  • Floor to ceiling windows offer sweeping views of the surrounding neighborhood
  • Roof top communal space for owners and guests
  • Proposed location within walking distance of public transportation
  • All units universally designed for maximum comfort.
